A Trip to the Park
After a week of twists and turns at Virginia International Raceway, the world-class sim racers of the Thrustmaster Mustang Challenge loaded-up and headed north to Lakeville, Connecticut for battle at the 1.53-mile, 7-turn Lime Rock Park.� While this course may seem to be one of the less challenging road courses on the Mustang circuit, it is often difficult to find that perfect lap and even more difficult to put together a perfect race to be crowned the best.� Brian Strodtbeck (Ohio) didn’t let those difficulties get in his way during Week Seven, as he was able to score the most championship points out of the 600+ sim racers who attempted to land that top podium position. Report: Hyundai co-CEO Yang resigns for personal reasons

Automotive News is reporting that Hyundai Co-CEO Steve Yang has resigned his duties at the Korean automaker for personal reasons. Yang helped push Hyundai to become the sales powerhouse it is now by improving the company's image and carving out additional market share even in the midst of an industry-wide downturn.Yang was responsible for both domestic and foreign operations, and AN reports that executives Kim Choong-hu and Kim Seung-tack will split Yang's duties moving forward. Yang helmed the automaker's day-to-day operations, and split CEO duties with two others, including chairman and founding family member Chung Mong-koo. A new CEO will be chosen by the company's board at a later date.
The 58-year-old Yang is stepping down due to health reasons, according to Automotive News. He will remain as an advisor. Yang was the less visible of the automaker's trio of CEOs, thanks in part to Chairman Chung's reputation as a stern leader who has been instrumental in raising his company's production standards.

Video: Awesome pedal-powered Hyundai Azera created in China

We've seen some pretty entertaining urban marketing campaigns here in the States, but we have to hand it to the Hyundai China team for the creative way that the company is choosing to drum up buzz about its new Azera. A team of skilled artists whipped up a full-scale, pedal-powered interpretation of the four-door sedan constructed from a tube-steel frame, sheets of plastic, Styrofoam and a vinyl wrap, then spent some time whirring around town to show the contraption to the public at large. Hilarity ensues at valet drop-offs and the like.
We're having a hard time coming up with any official word on exactly who was involved in the vehicle's build or what Hyundai China is doing with their pedal-powered Azera now. We're thinking that with a little modification, this thing would have made an awesome soap box derby racer, but it'd be a shame to see all that hard work risk getting crunched. Stewart wins again at Loudon
Tony Stewart scored his second Chase victory in less than a week at Loudon, beating Clint Bowyer on fuel mileage to jump into the lead of the NASCAR Sprint Cup title play-off. The two-time champion saw the coin flip after running out of fuel on the last lap while leading the same race last year, handing victory to his Richard Childress Racing rival. Video: Dodge releases official video of Viper ACR reclaiming 'Ring title

When Dodge first made waves about the company's Viper ACR whipping around the Nürburgring in 7:12, the world immediately began clamoring to see video of the lap in action. Well, clamor no more. SRT has officially released a video of the mighty Mopar doing the deed around the infamous German track. As you may recall, Tomball Dodge in Texas provided a set of brand-new 2010 Viper ACR models just for the task, as the Viper has been discontinued, and the trio was prepared for Nürburgring duty by the minds at Mintgen Motorsports.
With driver Dominik Farnbacher behind the wheel, team SRT was able to see the Viper around one of the world's most challenging road courses in blistering time, beating out the unofficial record set by the Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition by nearly two seconds. Farnbacher knows his way around a race car thanks to his extensive experience in the American Le Mans Series, Rolex Grand Am Series and the European Le Mans Series, among others. RBR gets a curfew extension back
Red Bull Racing has managed to get one of its four curfew extensions back after successfully proving that the staff member who arrived at the track early on Saturday was not associated with the operation of its car. The Milton Keynes-based outfit was one of three teams that was deemed to have breached Formula 1's curfew regulations when marketing staff were found to have entered the track before the 4pm cut-off point on qualifying day. The issue was of biggest concern to Red Bull Racing, because the curfew breach would have been the third of the four that it is allowed to have over the course of the season.

Lotus extends Renault engine deal
Team Lotus has announced that it has extended its Renault engine deal through to the end of 2013, with a view to the partnership continuing beyond that date. The Hingham-based squad will also continue to use gearboxes supplied by Red Bull Technology, and will use KERS for the first time next season. The original agreement between Lotus, Renault and Red Bull expired at the end of next year.

Plato wins race one at Rockingham
Jason Plato took his sixth British Touring Car victory of the season at Rockingham this morning. The Chevrolet Cruze driver started from pole and led throughout, despite a safety car period caused by an off by Rob Collard. Rob Austin's NGTC Audi challenged Paul O'Neill (Tech-Speed Chevrolet) for second on the opening lap, but spun to the back of the field at Pif Paf, leaving the Cruzes clear.

Rossi set to take engine penalty
Valentino Rossi expects to start the Aragon Grand Prix from the pitlane with a 10-second penalty after exceeding his six-engine limit for 2011. The change to the latest version of the Ducati, with a part aluminium frame, required modifications to the way the engine was fitted, and with Rossi having already used five engines prior to the new bike being introduced, to convert both his race and spare bikes to the new specification was always going to mean incurring a penalty at some stage

Vergne gets Monza win back
Jean-Eric Vergne's Formula Renault 3.5 title hopes have received a major boost after the penalty that cost him victory at Monza in May was overturned. After meeting in Milan on Thursday to hear an appeal lodged by Carlin, the Court of Appeal of the CSAI (Italian Motorsports Commission) quashed the post-race time penalty imposed on Vergne following race two at the Monza meeting. The penalty had been awarded by race officials when Vergne was judged to have maintained the lead of the race by cutting a chicane when ISR's Daniel Ricciardo had attempted an overtaking manoeuvre.

If you're looking for the ultimate example of life imitating art imitating life, look no further than the Nissan/Playstation GT Academy. The program pits thousands upon thousands of gamers playing Gran Turismo 5 against each other in a fight over a spot on Nissan's actual racing team. Now that competition is jumping onto television screens as a reality program.
The international competition is the subject of a new reality TV show that is set to air its first of five episodes on the Speed Network starting tomorrow, September 20. The show documents how a group of gamers were honed into a select team of actual racers, and the series was shot at England's legendary Silverstone race track. As is typical with such reality shows, the winner will be announced in the final episode.
Whether you had opportunity to enter the competition or not, it looks to be an interesting watch. Follow the jump for a preview video and for the full press release for all the details.

Two mistakes. After six days of late nights bent over the route book with calculator in hand, long days of non-stop rallying and lengthy transits, we've covered over 2,200 kilometers, raced 41 stages and made two penalty-worthy mistakes. There simply aren't words to convey the spectrum of emotions that accompanies the Targa Newfoundland, and the Flyin' Miata crew experienced its fair share of highs and lows throughout. While Wednesday saw both teams leading their respective classes, Thursday had nasty surprises in store for both the V8 Roadster and the supercharged NC.
Due to a transcription error, I fouled the finish time for stage 4-5, Garnish. We were supposed to cover the 13.25 kilometers in 8:43; I directed Brandon to the finish in 8:51, which landed us three seconds of time-over penalty plus another four seconds of interim time-control penalties. That seven seconds alone knocked us off of the podium, but the last stage of the day, Marystown North, saw an additional 7 seconds tacked onto our time after we missed the first turn and were forced to turn around.
