Sure, you want to save the environment (or a few bucks on gas), so you go out and buy a Toyota Prius. Starting that day, you'll been missing a bit of sport in your life. Toyota wants to help you out. The automaker has announced the release of the Prius Plus Performance Package, and TRD had a hand in the creation of the components.
This is a limited-edition Prius, which is being offered with a choice between four exterior colors: Blizzard Pearl, Classic Silver Metallic, Black and Winter Gray Metallic. That paint work is also applied to the seven-piece aero kit. The Prius Plus Performance Package bodywork is comprised of front and rear lower spoilers, side skirts and a rear diffuser. It adds a touch of aggressiveness but also helps lower the car's coefficient of drag.
This sportier (don't laugh) Prius sits lower than the standard car, with a drop of 1.1 inches up front and 1.3 inches in the back. That lowered stance helps set off the 17-inch forged alloys that are snugly wrapped by a set of low-rolling-resistance 215/45R17 tires. A rear sway bar helps reduce body lean, and unique badges (surprisingly, not good for any horsepower gains) alert the neighbors that your Prius is a tick meaner than theirs.
This package will be offered for any existing Prius model. New Prius shoppers can add it on from the get-go by paying an extra $3,699 over the sticker on the Prius Two, Three and Four, or an extra $2,999 for the Prius Five. Interested? Vettel eases to European GP victory
Sebastian Vettel resumed his domination of the 2011 Formula 1 season after his Montreal blip, by winning the European Grand Prix in Valencia with ease. The world champion broke his rivals' challenge with an early charge that saw him establish a three-second lead within a few laps and then nurse a similar advantage for the rest of the afternoon, before a push for fastest lap in the final stint took his winning margin up to 10.8 seconds. Fernando Alonso finished a very encouraging second for Ferrari in front of his home crowd.

Webber says losing second was his fault
Mark Webber admitted it was his fault to miss out on second place in the European Grand Prix, but the Australian was very happy with his performance during the weekend. Pirelli's new medium tyre compound will make its racing debut in this weekend's European GP following a successful test in Canada. The rubber, which was tested during practice in Montreal, will be the 'prime' tyre in Valencia, with the soft to be used as 'option'. We have seen it hinted and teased and glossily presented all over the internet, so we flew ourselves to the Nürburgring 24-hour affair and got all over her. Of course, we're talking about the long-awaited F10, or fifth-generation, M5 from BMW. The big news is that it will likely be priced at just eight percent above the starting sticker of the last-generation V10-powered E60 M5. Make that a cool $92,000. Then add M bells and whistles.
We know most of the details in the general sense. (The assembled BMW development bosses were all bragging about how much they had driven it already around the Nürburgring and Hockenheimring, and all those other 'Rings we don't get daily access to. Dirty dogs.) A 553-horsepower, 4.4-liter Twin-Power Turbo V8 shared with the X5 M and X6 M behemoths, plus the small matter of 500 pound-feet of torque between 1,500 and 5,750 rpm. Redline is now right around 7,200 rpm instead of the discontinued E60 M5's V10 that smacked us around at 8,250.
Versus the predecessor, which ceased production way back in December 2009, power is up by roughly 10 percent, torque by 30 percent, and fuel efficiency also by a whalloping 30 percent. "Drive it on the autobahn at full unrestricted speed around 180 miles per hour," says the F10 M5's project leader, Albert Biermann, "and certainly those efficiency numbers suffer. But our engineers drove the F10 every day to and from home some weeks, and have realized all of these better numbers."

Ogier takes Acropolis lead
Sebastien Ogier has moved into the lead of the Acropolis Rally heading for the after-dark stage that closes leg two. Svendsen-Cook takes Brands poles
Rupert Svendsen-Cook claimed his maiden British Formula 3 pole positions from an incredibly tight qualifying session at Brands Hatch. The Briton has started from reversed grid pole in the past, but this is the first time he has outqualified the field since graduating to F3 from Formula BMW in 2010.

Winterbottom makes it a pole double
Mark Winterbottom completed a pole double in qualifying for the second of this weekend's V8 Supercars events at Hidden Valley. The Ford Performance Racing driver led from pole in Saturday's race until a late restart tangle with Jamie Whincup, Shane van Gisbergen and Lee Holdsworth sent Winterbottom tumbling to 15th and let Rick Kelly win. Whincup, Winterbottom and van Gisbergen have all had 25 points deducted from their tallies as a punishment for that incident.

Kurt Busch takes 3rd straight Sprint Cup pole

Winterbottom denies Whincup pole
Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom beat championship leader Jamie Whincup (Triple Eight Holden) to pole position for the first of this weekend's races at Darwin's Hidden Valley Raceway. The top 10 shoot-out qualifying system is back in use this weekend, and after going quickest in the opening part of qualifying, Winterbottom was the last man out in the pole session - going on to edge out Whincup by just 0.01 seconds. Stone Brothers' Shane van Gisbergen registered his best qualifying result of 2011 so far in third, sharing row two with Dick Johnson Ford driver Steven Johnson.
